Academic Credit

Students receive 16.875 credit hours on the successful completion of their internships and coursework transcripted through Ohio Wesleyan University.


Students work approximately 20-30 hours a week for a company, institution, or individual creative practitioner structured by a learning goals agreement.     (12.187 credit hours)


Faculty in each of the major program areas: Theatre & Dance,  Music & Media,  Visual Arts,  and Writing & Publishing conduct seminars with their advisees  that  introduce to professional creative practices and provide a perspective from which to examine what you are learning,  and how your experiences in New York City are reflected in the broader context of your education and in your creative work.  Most seminars frequently incorporate guest artists and site visits.                               (3.75 credit hours)   NY Arts Program Spring 2018 Seminars

Journal & Independent Study

Students are required to keep a journal that records and reflects a critical engagement with your experience as you work towards your goals. (Writing Requirements) During the second half of the semester students propose and pursue a clearly defined independent study project that relates to the over-arching goals of their New York semester.      (.938 credits)

Professional Development Workshops

Through NYAP’s educational partnership with Creative Capital students participate in professional level workshops on strategic planning and financial literacy.  Creative Capital  is a national foundation that supports individual artists with grants and advising to help them develop and sustain their creative practices.  Workshops with NYAP students focus on skills designed to help students develop plans to achieve their professional and creative goals.
