Harrison Fuerst

Harrison Fuerst has a diverse professional background in higher education administration and intercultural education. Prior to joining the New York Arts Program he worked at SIT Study Abroad assisting in the research and development of Asia-Pacific programs. He is also an alumnus of the Japan Exchange Teaching (JET) Program, and worked for the Imabari Board of Education in Japan for three years. Before Japan he helped build the Japan Artist Information Directory at the Five College Center For East Asian Studies, and worked for three years at several universities in China helping to bolster their global programs. A fluent speaker of Mandarin and Japanese, he has undertaken field research on topics including ethnic identity and deaf culture in the United States, China, and most recently several countries in the Caribbean. Harrison has written a play performed by the Great Lakes Theatre, won writing and acting accolades for a recent short film, and has done freelance media production for several organizations. Harrison received his BA in China Studies & Social Theory from Hampshire College, and is an MA candidate in International Education at the SIT Graduate Institute.
